BWB transport design model

Another set of pictures of a scratchbuild of the later design BWB concept, this one a transport and communications airplane for the Air Force. Newer blended wing body planes are refining in shape to a center wing bogy of deep cross section and outer wing panels much like those on current arliners and military transports. I made this scratchbuilt model in 1/288 scale from parts of old airliner models plus some curved styrene panels. I used the engines from a 747 kit and carved the rotodome of the AWACS antenna from hardwood. For scale, I posed this model with an earlier scratchbuilt 1/288 model of a Northrop XB-35 flying wing airplane. This craft did fly in the late 1940's successfully but was not put into mass production nor its jet propelled version. The second model shows the evolvement of flying wing design and size to the newer Boeing concept which may become the Airline and Mil-transport of future times.
I am a great enthusiast in the concept of flying-wing, or "tail-less" aircraft. I'm probably drawn by their minimalist appearance and simplicity, along with the more natural resemblance to natures' aviators, the butterflies, birds and bats. The greater ease of making these models with their simpler shapes has been a bonus!
