Navigation Check

After doing the EE Vigilant aircraft scene, wanted to try another night flight scene and as usual...dragon! The character is a purple predator type of dragon taking a quick check of his location by star positions and a glance down maybe to match up the human constellations below. He's on course and a warm cave and carrion awaits.

The background land forms are a speedpaint, the sky is an astrophotograph which I took about 30 years ago. The method was to use a 100mm telephoto at f8 and Fujichrome 100 film with the shutter of the Olympus OM-1 open for 15 minutes. The camera was clamped to a moving telescope to keep the sky locked at earth rotation speed. The Constellation is Draco (what else?) and there are actually some 14 galaxies in the picture along with the stars. The obvious 6 of them are elongated smudges, the most prominent of which is directly above the dragon's snout about the same distance as the snout nostril to his eyes.
