Description
This is the first try at creating a tabletop model of a dragon using techniques and materials used previously in aircraft models. There will be a series of these planned to use heavy paperboard, plastic, wood, paper and combinations.
Inspiration to try these from deviant Richi89, really interesting results.
Model is about 6" length and height, took 8 hours to build and 5 to paint. Made with 100" weight Bristol board art paper. Method is using a series of tapered tubes and cones plus curved cylinders , curved sections and flats. The basic shape is then plated or covered in scales depending on area and the wings and tails added last. A few wood parts used for the eyes (beads) and horns (dowels).
While working from a sketch, found that the flexibility of the sections was limited resulting in a larger model than planned (3" or 4"). Also the shape a bit different but decided to continue and finish. The result really looks more like a 1:1 replica of a small species dragon instead of a small scale model of a larger species.
