Perseverence

The idea was a request for a character draw placed in his late December Journals. Upon my request for a scene theme, this was suggested in simpler terms:

On a typical day in the volcanic island, Zorath and his Geology team explore a steaming caldera. While the climate is nothing too extreme for a dragon, the people cannot stay very long. A miscalculation and a series of ash clouds have separated Zorath from the rest and he is now worried for their safety and he decides to end the research session.

The search begins and in the most typical draconian pattern, perseverance with dedication will accompany the search and the rescue.

A line with brilliant stripes is seen and examined, a climbers' rope and it is ascending, which is the proper survival technique. A smell of the rope and Zorath knows all of his humans are taking to high ground on this line and are not far ahead. In the murky air a Roar and flame cuts through to let the team know they will be complete soon and then off the shifting landform.

I went for a darker look with this, and the character as more full size and feral proportions. As time progresses, I will try more of this size and type species, which I tend to refer to as "classic dragon types", there are excellent archetypes for them here and elsewhere. They are not my greatest interest or inclination, but then again- I said that about "anthro" and "cartoon" dragons as well a few years ago. Would like to do all types and many styles as time goes forward.
